The Inspiration Behind my Blog “GoodReefKeeping.com”
Hello Fellow Reef Tank Enthusiasts!
My blog’s name, “Good Reef Keeping,” emerged from a combination of passion and purpose. I’ve learned that maintaining a saltwater tank isn’t just about aesthetics or having beautiful marine life on display—it’s about commitment, diligence, and understanding the intricacies of the underwater ecosystem. “Good Reef Keeping” embodies the idea that thriving reef aquariums come from a blend of informed practices, patience, continuous learning, and genuine care.
As I set up my first tank and later my second, I took in every advice and tip the community had to offer. Forums, chat rooms, and websites became my lifeline. They helped me prevent from making “common beginner mistakes” and provided support and guidance when things went awry – yes, I had those moments and probably will again in the future.
Now, as I watch my tank bloom and thrive (fingers crossed), I feel very thankful for the incredibly knowledge staff at my local fish store, Pure Reef (Alpharetta, GA), and the vast online community that guided me through my journey thus far.
This blog is my way of sharing my experiences, learnings, and love for saltwater tanks with the online community. Whether you’re a beginner, a seasoned reef keeper, or just someone curious about the magical world beneath the water’s surface. I hope to inspire and provide some valuable insights, tips, and help for your reef-keeping journey.
Let’s dive in together!

I just joined MASNA (Marine Aquarium Societies of North America), a non-profit organization that brings together marine aquarium clubs, individual hobbyists, and industry partners. Their mission is to educate members, supports hobbyist clubs, promotes marine conservation, and combats abuses in marine organism collection and transportation. As a bonus, the membership gives you access to special discounts from online retailers such as BRS, CoralVue, ICP-Analysis, and Saltwateraquarium.com (Source: MACNA website as of 11.15.2023). In addition, I am a member of the Atlanta Reef Club (ARC), which has become another platform for me to learn, share my passion with my fellow aquarists, and leverage their marketplace to sell frags.
